Settlements

The new municipality of Lovrenc na Pohorju spreads over the following settlements:

Činžat

It is a spacious settlement on the very east of the borders of the municipality, on the north Pohorje, south and west from the Drava river. The river flows through a narrow valley, which opens widely a few miles later. There also flows a small stream called Lampretov potok. People in this area mostly breed cows and sheep. Higher, needlelike forests prevail. Most of the people living here are employed in the nearest cities Ruše and Maribor, and some also in Lovrenc na Pohorju.

Kumen

Is a very wide spread settlement on the hills south-west from Lovrenc na Pohorju, where mostly lonely farms can be found. The settlement was first mentioned between 1193 and 1220. The Pohorje mountain is covered mostly with needlelike forests, which are also a very important source of income for the farmers. A lot of the farmers also breed animals.

Lovrenc na Pohorju

Urbane, mostly lying by the road heading to a near ski resort Rogla, the central settlement on the north of Pohorje lies by the Radoljna river. Although there are lots of possibilities for agriculture, the main economic activity is industry, which mostly developed in the past because of the availability of water and woods. There were sawmills, smithies, a tannery, glassworks and a smeltery of iron, which was closed in the middle of 19th century. Now there are two companies, Tovarna kos in srpov and Marles with a sawmill, which constructs houses. A lot of inhabitants have found their jobs in those factories, although most of them still have to go to work to the nearest Ruše and Maribor.

The area where today's settlement is, belonged to the St. Paul monastery from Karintia, and was first mentioned in 1091. It got fair trade rights in 1222, and it was mentioned as a bigger square in 1381. There are three churches in Lovrenc na Pohorju: the church of St. Lovrenc, the church of St. Radegunde, and by the road in the centre of the town there is a church of St. Cross from 17th century. Higher on Pohorje there are widespread peaty swamps and the Lovrenc lakes.

Puščava

Is a smaller settlement by the road from the Drava valley to Lovrenc na Pohorju. There are few houses, some also at the outfall of the Radoljna river into the Drava river, where there is a road junction to the regional road Maribor - Dravograd. In the centre of the settlement there are two churches: the church of St. Maria and that of St. Ana, both dating back to 17th century. The church of St. Maria belongs to the monuments from the early baroque in Slovenia.

Rdeči breg

Spacious settlement lies on the hills north of the Lovrenc valley, there is a Kapus stream on the west, the lower part of the river Radoljna on the east and the stream Slepnica on the south. Its north border is the Drava river.

Recenjak

Mostly of lonely farms and groups of few houses, the hill lies west from Lovrenc na Pohorju and spreads high up to the lakes of Lovrenc. Needlelike forests prevail.

Ruta

It lies on the very north of Pohorje, on the valley where the Radoljna river outfalls into the river Drava. It is a relatively new settlement by the railway Maribor - Dravograd, and the bridge crosses the Drava river and connects Lovrenc na Pohorju with the Drava valley. Again, forests prevail.
